Spinal osteoarthritis cannot be cured but can be prevented from doing further damage to the body using the following treatments:
1. Perform exercise on regular basis to strengthen the back and abdominal muscles. If the muscles are strong, then it will be able to maintain body weight and absorb shock to prevent it from reaching to the spinal cord and damaging it. Also perform stretching exercise to make the muscles flexible and reduce stiffness.
2. Carry out light exercise such as swimming, walking, and water aerobics to reduce stiffness without exerting muscles much. It will also help to reduce weight thereby reducing pressure on the joints.
3. Perform exercise in warm water because it will help to reduce pain and increase blood circulation. It also loses muscles and joints so that we can extend our motion.
4. Ice soaked cloth is good treatment to get temporary relief from spinal osteoarthritis. Apply this once in every four hours.
5. Anti-inflammatory drugs can prove to be useful treatment for temporary relief.
6. If spinal pain persist for long time and becomes unbearable, then spinal injection can also be used for treating spinal osteoarthritis.
7. The last step of surgery is needed only if you suffer from severe neurological impairments.
