What are the Symptoms of Degenerative Arthritis?

Degenerative arthritis is caused by progressive wear and tear of the cartilage of the joints. The symptoms of degenerative arthritis are the indicators of this disease. Here are the signs and symptoms of degenerative arthritis.

Degenerative arthritis develops gradually. Thus you won’t come to know initially. Initially, there will only be minor pain in the joints. But later on there will be strong symptoms like:

  • Joint pain and stiffness in the morning
  • Soreness after walking or over use of joints
  • Stiffness after rest intervals
  • Extreme or moderate pain in joints of hips, knees, fingers, neck, and lower spine

There can be osteoarthritis of one joint or more joints. If there is degenerative arthritis of knees, patients will face problems while moving the knee; they may also experience pain while walking or climbing the stair case. There might also be knee locking.
Degenerative arthritis of fingers then there will be swelling of finger joints, extreme pain in fingers, and presence of Bouchard’s nodes.
Degenerative arthritis of spine then there will be wear out of spinal disc. Patient will feel extreme pain in lower back and neck. There might be numbness of arms, legs and shoulders.
However, symptoms of degenerative arthritis differ from patient to patient. Some patients may show strong while some may show moderate signs and symptoms.
