How is Osteoarthritis of Spine Diagnosed?

Also referred to as spondylosis, spinal osteoarthritis is the disorder which maligns the normal structure of the spinal cord. It may come in way of the normal functioning of the spinal cord. It can be diagnosed in following way:

X-rays: An X-ray will tell you the condition of the neck bone.

Myelogram: This technique gives an idea about the condition of the spinal cord. It also tells you about the condition of the nerves. This methodology makes use of a special type of dye. This dye is injected into the spinal cord. Then, analyzing the ease of he flow of the dye in the spinal cord, conclusions are deduced.

CT scan: It makes use of the X-ray radiation technique.  The difference between the CT scan and an X-ray is that the former one can be used to scan thin regions of the body. This helps in determining the deformity of the spinal cord. It is handy in examining in the tissues of the bone.

MRI scan: It does not use X-ray radiations for scanning. It is useful in scanning the soft tissues.

EMG: This test determines the strength of the spinal cord. It is used in diagnosing the chronic nerve root compressions.
