The other name for spinal osteoarthritis is spondylosis. In this disease the facet joints in the spinal vertebrates are affected with severe pain. This disease is more common in people of age more than 45 years but this is not fixed. Between the vertebrates inter vertebral discs are present which acts as shock absorbers thereby preventing damage to the spinal cord. This cartilage gets gradually deteriorated. Due to this the vertebrates bone are not able to move over each other smoothly
The result is friction causing irritation and damage to the bones. Spinal osteoarthritis can also give rise to bone spur between the spinal joints narrowing the passage through which the spinal nerves pass. Due to this the force on spinal nerves increases giving rise to weakness and numbness. Due to spinal osteoarthritis, the width of the disc present between the vertebrates decreases increasing the chance of herniated disc.
There are very few early symptoms of spinal osteoarthritis but in advance version of it, some part of cartilage gets ripped of and form bits and starts floating around the joints which causes irritation in the joints and inflammation of bones. Lower back area is common area affected by spinal osteoarthritis. |
