What is Juvenile Arthritis?

Juvenile Arthritis attacks children below the age of 16 years. According to various practitioners, this disease is one of the most common forms of arthritis observed in children. Juvenile Rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) is nothing but a subset of Rheumatoid Arthritis observed among adults. JRA only affects at childhood and may be chronic, self-limited or transient in form, depending on its severity. It is not a sole disease but a combination of more than two diseases that inflict severe damages to the joints of the body. Pauciarticular disease is one among the various diseases encompassed in JIA. This condition affects the major joint areas like shoulder, hip, elbow and knee. This type is most common among children below the age of 8 years.

Polyarticular disease is another kind of JRA disease. It affects most of the minor joints and bones present in the hands and feet. This disease is likely to affect more than 5 joint areas at one time. Further, systemic disease is the severest of all the diseases grouped under Juvenile arthritis diseases. This condition has direct impacts on the major internal systems of the body. It causes inflammation in vital organs like heart, liver, spleen and digestive organs.
