There are four stages in the occurrence of gout namely asymptomatic, acute, intercritical and chronic which has the following symptoms. When the person is in the asymptomatic stage, the level of urate increases in the blood but this does not produce any symptoms. So this stage passes by without knowing. The next stage i.e. acute stage, the symptoms last up to 5 to 10 days. The person might feel sudden attack of joints or swelling. Your joints might start feeling hot and that area will get bruised or red. They will appear dusty and tender.
Intercritical stage is when the person is symptom free and may or may not experience any sort of problems. People will generally have attack from 6months to 2 years when going through this stage. In the last chronic stage, the affected person will have to continuously bear the pain of joints and urate is deposited largely in the membranes, cartilage, tissues and also between the bones. During this time, the affected area will develop sores and discharge white pus. The joints will get stiff and the movement of joints which are affected will not occur smoothly. These are some of the symptoms that one should know in order to find out whether they are affected by gout or not.
