The relation between gout and arthritis is that gout is a form of arthritis. It is basically caused due to excess of uric acid in the blood stream. In fact gout is quite common version of arthritis which causes lot of pain in the affected areas. Uric acid forms when the substances like purines are broken down by the body. The problem with gout affected people is that they either produce lot of uric acid or the body is unable to excrete them out of the body. Gout may occur on it own but it generally occurs due to other medical conditions or drugs that may cause disturbance when removing uric acid. Gout arthritis may give rise to needle-like, sharp crystals that get accumulated in the connective tissues of the body. This will ultimately cause stiffness and pain in the joints, swelling, heat, redness etc.
As it is a form of arthritis, the highly affected areas are the joints. But, gout will also give problems in the kidneys and in the urinary path. When a person is affected by this type of arthritis, he may not come to know in the early stage. Once affected with gout, you might get affected with many related diseases like kidney stones and various other complications.
