Is there a Gout Diet?

If you are affected by gout or want to avoid gout then one can follow a proper diet. One should go for a low purine diet and avoid the intake of high levels of purine. Your diet should not have the much of beer, organ meat, anchovies, yeast, gravies, herring, scallops, sardines etc. apart from this, fresh and saltwater fish and several other poultry and dairy products contains medium amount of purine. Several other food items which you can take at a moderate level are mushrooms, spinach, cauliflower, legumes, wheat gram, bran, oatmeal, eggs and cereal. Such food items if taken at normal intervals will not cause any harm and will help in maintaining proper gout diet.

The foods that can be eaten without any restriction and least amount of purines are breads and cereals, peanut butter and nuts. You can have vegetables that are not high in purines can be consumed without any hassle. One can also include low fat food items that are easily available in the market like tea, fruit, coffee soft drinks etc. some people also have fruit juices of cherry and strawberries in their diet. So basically the gout diet includes products that are rich in carbohydrates and low in fats and proteins.
