Degenerative arthritis is also termed as Osteoarthritis. It is a type of arthritis in which there is deterioration of cartilage of one or more joints. Degenerative arthritis is a joint disease in which the patient experiences stiffness, pain and swelling in joints. There are different types of arthritis and degenerative arthritis is one such type which is quite common. It can happen to males as well as females around age group of 45 to 60. According to the statistics around 20 million people in the United States are affected by degenerative arthritis. It also exists among Japanese, East Indians and Southern Chinese.
Osteoarthritis or degenerative arthritis affects spine, hands and feet in general. It also affects the joints on which there is more weight load. There are two types of arthritis in degenerative arthritis. The type, in which the cause of such a condition can not be diagnosed, is called as primary degenerative arthritis. It can be related to aging. And the condition in which the cause can be found out is secondary degenerative arthritis. It may be due to obesity, surgery, gout or any other reason. In most cases, the patients suffer from primary degenerative arthritis in which the cause is not known. Due to degenerative arthritis there is loss of cushion between the bones which leads to friction of bones, irritation in joints, swelling, inflammation etc. |
