Arcoxia is a medication used to treat physical conditions such as acute gout, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. The medication consists of etoricoxib as an active ingredient. Arcoxia belongs to a group of medication referred to as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). The chemical name of this medication is 5-chloro-6'-methyl-3-[4-(methylsulfonyl) phenyl]-2, 3’-bipyridine and chemical formula is C18H15ClN2O2S. The molecular weight of this medication is 358.842 g/mol.
Arcoxia needs to be taken exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. For patients having osteoarthritis, the recommended dosage is 60mg once daily. For rheumatoid arthritis, the recommended dosage is 90mg of Arcoxia once daily. For patients having ankylosing spondylitis, the recommended dosage is 90mg once daily. Patients having gout attacks can take 120mg of Arcoxia once daily.
Arcoxia is mainly indicated for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. It can also be used to manage ankylosing spondylitis and to offer required relief from persistent musculoskeletal pain and acute pain. You can also use this medication for treating short-term gouty arthritis. Arcoxia comes under a class of medications named COX-2 (cyclooxygenase-2) specific inhibitors. Normally, COX-1 along with COX-2 is produced by body through natural process.
Like other medicines, Arcoxia has also some possible side-effects. All patients using Arcoxia might not experience the side-effects.
