Yes, arthritis medicines can be taken with alternative treatments, but under medical supervision.
Arthritis, being a disorder bringing about lot of problems and discomfort among patients, they want a treatment which brings them complete relief. Some patients believe that only the traditional medications as prescribed by the physician will work. While, some people believe that use of alternative and natural treatments are non synthetic and non toxic. And hence, they are the best. But rather than being strong on any one of the two views it is better to strike a balance.
As far as traditional medicines are concerned the prescription medications has been reviewed by the FDA. And so there is clarity about the risks, side effects and benefits. But in case of alternative treatments and herbal treatments because of less extent of studies, the risk benefit factor is not that clear. And so, the patient who has arthritis must not forego with the conventional prescription medications without permission of the doctor.
As far as alternative treatments are concerned there are many types like acupuncture, dietary supplements, herbal care, homeopathy etc. Even they bring some amount of relief; however the extent of relief is different for different patients. Also, there are things that must be taken into consideration like allergies, toxicity, knowledge about alternative treatment etc. It is recommended to take alternative therapy with conventional medicines under strict guidance of the doctor. |
